Hatcheries , when looking at the magnitude of this planned project , 1 , 8000 , 000 chickens and 64 , 000 tons of manure , I am concerned by the negative long lasting result that seems so unnecessary for the surrounding area . The location of the project was terribly wrong due to the known existing conditions . This long term/high volume water contamination will need subsequent and continued water sampling for years to come. The community of Roggen is directly in line for this flow. The people cannot afford deeper wells . I would expect many continuos complaints . We need our scattered small towns. They all serve a needed purpose . Maybe M.O.A.R.K. would consider compensating with a drinkable water supply. With the chicken droppings , the dead chickens , and the rejected and broken egas , it sounds like a stew you would put on a barge and haul out to sea and feed to the sharks . There are vague solutions to critical items such as : Wind erosion control Flood control Complete odor control Health Factors Minimal contamination control There are very long term, hazardous factors . This type of project definition needs strict regulations , frequent inspection, and strict compliance. The question arises , are the benefits worth the means? I do not think so . The flies and the birds may love it, but for me, I just keep thinking of the very long term contamination , the odor , and the horrible chicken stew. M. A.
