RE: Road and Alley Maintenance
Dear Commissioners:
This correspondence is to request maintenance of the roads and alleys in the unincorporated
area of Weld County known as Roggen.
The alley between Harrison Street and Burlington Street is nearly impassable and is a
hazard. This is true not only because of local traffic in the alley, (I recently witnessed an
emergency vehicle inching through) but also because of the health risk caused by breeding
mosquitoes from the standing water. Lastly, this alley is the only access available to my
driveway and also the driveways of my neighbors to the north and to the east. In the three
years I have owned this property (Lots 13 and 14) there has not been any maintenance done
to the alley.
In these three years my property taxes have increased by approximately 800%. I really don't
mind this because I have upgraded my property. I feel this was to be expected. However, as
you can see from the copies of photos I've enclosed, the property owned and controlled by
Weld County needs to be upgraded as well. Simply put, maintained.
Also enclosed are photos of Front Street in front of my home and restaurant. There have
been in the last few months four (4) people who have fallen in the mud caused by the backed
up water there. One was an elderly woman who broke her wrist in the fall.
I believe it is in the best interest of the County to insure the public safety by working to
maintain and eliminate the curb and gutter situation and also the streets and alleys in
Roggen.
I have received copies of the rules from the Colorado Department of Transportation
regarding this problem. Their rules state that in unincorporated areas like this the County
holds the responsibility of maintenance along State roads and highways.
Thank you for your time. I will be anxiously waiting for your reply in regards to this matter.
Truly yours,
Elizabeth M. Jordan
