RE: DECLARATION OF DISASTER EMERGENCY AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN
ANY NECESSARY DOCUMENTS
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, Weld County has been severely impacted by recent flooding caused by
heavy precipitation, of a number of watercourses and other areas including, without limitation,
the Town of New Raymer, all during the period inclusive of June 3, through July 24, 1997, and
since July 28, 1997, and
WHEREAS, said disastrous flood events caused extensive damage and losses to
agricultural areas, government structures and road, bridge and transportation systems, with
damage to the County's road, bridge and transportation systems estimated in excess of
$400,000 for the period June 3 through July 24, 1997 and in excess of $1,000,000, and
WHEREAS, the Town of New Raymer has estimated in excess of $75,000 damages to
the Municipal building, and the overall reported damages do not include significant damage to
agricultural terracing, fencing and other agricultural systems, and
WHEREAS, pursuant to C.R.S. §§ 24-32-2101, et. seq., (the "Colorado Disaster
Emergency Act of 1992"), and Title VI of PL 93-288, as amended, The Robert T. Stafford
Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, Weld County may qualify for Federal Disaster
Relief as long as the Board declares that there exists in Weld County a disaster emergency.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that a state of disaster emergency is in effect within Weld County,
Colorado.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chair is authorized to sign any and
all documents necessary for the purpose of defining and communicating the existence of said
disaster emergency.
