RE: Request Regarding Weld County Road 27
Dear Ms. Martinez:
This letter is in response to your letter dated May 15, 1998, requesting that Weld County allow
you and your family to "adopt" Weld County Road ("WCR") 27, between WCR's 6 and 10.
Specifically, you and your family wish to donate time to "maintain" this portion of WCR 27.
Weld County, Colorado, does not have a formal program for the "adoption" of Weld County
Roads by those persons or groups wishing to donate time for maintenance, such as trash cleanup
as does the State of Colorado Department of Transportation. You have the right, as does any
member of the public, to walk on or travel on the roadways as a pedestrian, as long as you abide
by applicable statutes governing pedestrians on roadways. The statutes pertaining to these
activities include C.R.S., Sections 42-4-801 and 42-4-805. Copies of those sections are enclosed.
Thus, if you wish to perform the maintenance on this portion of WCR 27,you may do so as well
as you abide by these statutes.
The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County wishes to thank you for your offer to
donate the time for the maintenance of this portion of WCR 27. The spirit of commitment which
you have exhibited in your letter is commendable and is an example for all others.

MY FAMILY HAS LIVED IN THE WELD COUNTY MAINLY
THE FORT LUPTON AREA FOR OVER 100 YEARS. WE WOULD LIKE TO ADOPT A COUNTY
ROAD LIKE THE STATE DOES THEIR HIGHWAYS. HOW DO WE START THIS- WHAT CAN WE
DO IF ANYTHING TO GET THE BALL ROLLING?
OUR OLD HOMESTEAD AND THE ROAD WE WOULD LIKE
TO MAINTAIN IS WCR 27 BETWEEN COUNTY ROAD 10 AND COUNTY ROAD 6.
