Dear Ms. Richmeier:
We appreciate the concerns you expressed in your letter of April 19, 1996, regarding the road
condition and the dust problem on Weld County Road (WCR) 10 between WCR 27 and WCR 29.
The traffic count taken this year is 288 cars in a 48-hour period, which indicates that this portion of
road qualifies for some of the criteria.
Every year the Board of Weld County Commissioners considers over 100 miles of roads that are
candidates for paving. Only 15 to 20 miles per year actually get paved due to the County's Budget.
The traffic has increased tremendously on nearly all roads in southern Weld County the past few
years. As a result, there are many miles that deserve consideration for paving. To pave a gravel road
requires an entire rebuild and construction procedure, which is very expensive. Besides traffic
counts, area traffic patterns, drainage problems, and roadside hazards, other items must be
considered to decide the most cost-effective asphalt projects. The paving schedule has already been
planned for the 1996 season; however, this section of road may be reviewed for the 1997
construction season.
Please feel free to contact me or the Public Works Department if you have other questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
BOARD/4ht
OF WELD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
