Albi JMA:sf Enclosure n\^'fin`" b f Ve\V'\ 961126 1996 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 96-19 BY SENATORS Norton, Ament, Matsunaka, Mutzebaugh, Schroeder, and Weissmann; also REPRESENTATIVES Owen, Jerke, Mace, Musgrave, and Sullivan. CONCERNING THE INCLUSION OF HIGHWAY 85 FROM GREELEY TO THE COLORADO-WYOMING BORDER IN THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SYSTEM. WHEREAS, The National Highway System focuses federal resources on roads that are vital to interstate travel , roads that connect to other modes of transportation, and roads essential to international commerce; and WHEREAS, The Greeley/Weld Chamber of Commerce, the City of Greeley, and Weld County have requested that Highway 85 from Greeley to the Colorado-Wyoming border be added to the National Highway System; and WHEREAS, The inclusion of Highway 85 as part of the National Highway System would complete a route currently designated as part of the National Highway System; and WHEREAS, Highway 85 is the only such highway in Colorado that would complete a partially designated route that is requested for inclusion in the National Highway System; and WHEREAS, Highway 85 provides access to the Denver International Airport for persons from Wyoming and northern Colorado; and WHEREAS, This portion of Highway 85 carries an average of 9,150 vehicles per day and 3,339,000 vehicles annually; and WHEREAS, This portion of Highway 85 continues to be used as a significant route by the trucking industry, carrying an average of 300,577 trucks annually; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixtieth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein: That the Colorado General Assembly supports the inclusion of Highway 85 from Greeley to the Colorado-Wyoming border as part of the National Highway System. Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Greeley/Weld Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor of the City of Greeley, the Wyoming Legislature, the Weld County Commissioners, and the Federal Highway Administration.
