Dear Mr. Petras:
I appreciate the concerns you expressed in your letter of March 14 regarding traffic and dust on
WCR 13 west of WCR 20.
The traffic has increased tremendously on nearly all roads in southern Weld County the past few
years. As a result, there are many miles that deserve asphalt consideration.
To pave a gravel road requires an entire rebuild and construction procedure, which is very
expensive. Besides traffic counts, area traffic patterns, drainage problems, and roadside hazards,
other items must be considered to decide the most cost-effective asphalt projects that will fit into
the County's budget.
Traffic counts taken in 1995 do indicate that WCR 13 west of WCR 20 fits some of the criteria.
The paving schedule is set for the 1996 season, however, this section of road will be
reconsidered in 1997.
Please feel free to contact me or the Public Works Department if you have other questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF WELD COMMISSIONERS

Ms. Kirkmeyer
My name is Timothy Petras and I live on 5800 Weld County Road 20. This is just
West of Road 13 on Road 20 in the southern part of the county.
I would like to make you aware of the conditions that is happening in my area on this
road. The traffic has increase many fold in the recent months. There is a horse arena which is
west of me aprox. one mile. And the horse trailer traffic has become very very busy. On the week-
ends and evenings there is so much truck and trailer traffic that its almost constant. The trailer
traffic continues past 10 P.M. in the evenings. With this high flow of traffic the dirt road becomes
a washboard in a matter of hours. I can only drive one to two miles per hour with my car or it
will vibrate right off the road. The dust is also a major factor now. Each vehicle leave a trail of
dust and it almost always there. My daughter and I don't like to go outside when we're
home. We can 't air any of our cloths on the lines outside for the dirt floating and our house is
dirty in side from this dusrt. We've had clacium phosphate laided down now for two years but the
traffic is getting to high for the dirt road. The high volume of traffic creates the washboard effect
on the road and when large trucks go by and I'm upstairs in my bedroom the house shakes and
picture rattle on the walls. I have an all brick two story home and I fear that the bricks are going
to start cracking and hurting the foundation, this scares me.

Since the traffic at the Del Camineo exit is so congested the area people are now starting
to use road 20 to get through I-25 on the underpass. This is increasing our traffic flow on our
road. With all of the traffic plus a large growth in the area this road is becoming very very
busy and making it very hard to live on this road. I've made calls to ge the road graded more
often and put the dust surpressent down at my cost but its not enough to cope with this
vloume of traffic. A count was taken last year and I understand that the road was on the list
for paving but didn't make it. The count was at aprox. 200 per day , the traffic has greatly
increased on the road since then. We would greatly appreciate if you could consider paving this
road in the near future.
Thank You,
yy
Timothy Petras
