HomeMy WebLinkAbout950127.tiffRE: Greeley -Weld County Airport expanion -5 h1111: 18 CLERK ROTH FARMS Gerald & Janet Roth 32100 Weld County Road 49 Greeley, Colorado 80631 (303) 356-0299 December 30, 1994 I am opposed to the expansion of the pro proposed "Alternative North/South Runway", for the following reasons: 1.) The runway will be a dividing barrier through the Pleasant Valley. Pleasant valley is some of the most productive soil in the world. The Farmland Conversion Impact Rating for this land is 96 out of 100 maximum points. 2.) It will have a negative economical impact on the farms of Pleasant Valley --taking farmland out of production, dividing farm operations, and blocking transportation to markets. 3,) The closure of Bliss Road, the major agricultural road of this area, will force farm machinery, trucks, and cars onto highway 263. 263 is a narrow windy road with few passing areas. Farm machinery is big, wide and slow. The only safe solution to this prblem would be to four lane 263--a taxpayers nightmare. 4,) Noise will be produced over residences of the agricul- tural farm communities. 5,) the new flight patterns will have a impact of wildlife of the farm valley. Eagles are nesting in my backyard. I have always enjoyed and respected the deer, coyote and other widlife of the area. 6.) A primary North/South runway is not beneficial in relationship to wind patterns of the Vall;,y. 7.) The new runway will have a safety impact on the resid- ences of the Valley. 8.) Oil wells will have to be relocated, capped, or aban- donment. • 9.) The new runway could interfere with DIA flight patterns. 10,) The new runway will interfere with agriculture spray planes --the major purpose of the airport for the beginning. 11.) Without a underpass over Bliss Road -this plan can not be considered. The logical alternative plan is the extension of the present East/west runway. The reasons for approval of this plan are: 1.) Use of an existing runway. 2.) There will be little interference with agricultural 950127 dt ; ,&L.,24e.1/ A Pa/ roads and Bliss Road, Bliss Road could be rerouted with minumimal confict and cost. 3.) Few residents will be effected. 4.) Few oil wells will be effected. Another plan is to improve th Loveland/Fort Collins Airport with benefits as follows: 1.) The airport can already accomodicate large jets and aircraft. 2.) The airport is a less timely commute then the Greeley/weld Airport, from the west edge of Greeley -the major growth center of Weld County. 3.) The land surrounding this airport is less valuable agricultural land. 4.) The flight patterns do not interfere with DIA. 5.) The airport is located right off of Interstate 25. Please take and reveiw our opposition to the expansion of the Alternative North/South Runway. Thank you for considering the two better proposals. Sincerely, Atilt Gerald L. Roth 950127 Hello
