SUBJECT: Western Arterial Alignment Meeting
After discussion with the County Commissioners and City Council, combined with results of the
public workshops and consultant recommendations, the Staff will be recommending to the City
Council the Western Arterial corridor. The meeting to discuss the corridor will be held:

RESOLUTION NO. , 1995.
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR AND THE DESIGNATION OF A
CORRIDOR FOR A WESTERN ARTERIAL ROADWAY CONNECTING US 34 BYPASS
SOUTH TO US 85.
WHEREAS, OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, THERE HAS BEEN INCREASED
DEVELOPMENT IN THE WESTERN AREA OF GREELEY, AND
WHEREAS, THERE IS A GROWING NUMBER OF RESIDENTS IN THE WESTERN
PORTION OF THE GREELEY AREA WHO FREQUENT A SHORT CUT FROM US 34
BYPASS TO US 85, AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF GREELEY HAS RECOGNIZED THE NEED FOR A WESTERN
ARTERIAL CONNECTION AND TO PLAN FOR FUTURE GROWTH AND TRAFFIC
DEMANDS, AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY .OF GREELEY COMMISSIONED A STUDY IN 1994 TO
INVESTIGATE THE FEASIBILITY OF SEVERAL ALTERNATIVE CORRIDORS IN
WHICH AN ARTERIAL ROADWAY COULD BE CONSTRUCTED, AND
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF GREELEY HAS CONDUCTED SEVERAL PUBLIC
WORKSHOPS TO GATHER PUBLIC INPUT MET WITH THE WELD COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS AND THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, AND
WHEREAS, THE WESTERN ARTERIAL CORRIDOR STUDY HAS BEEN COMPLETED
AND A RECOMMENDED CORRIDOR HAS BFFN IDENTIFIED, AND
WHEREAS, THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENTS
BETWEEN THE CITY OF GREELEY, WELD COUNTY, AND THE COLORADO
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAVE TO BE DEVELOPED, AND
WHEREAS, THE DESIGNATION OF AN ARTERIAL ROADWAY CORRIDOR IS
ESSENTIAL TO THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF GREELEY, MEETING THE
FUTURE TRAFFIC DEMANDS, AND THE RESERVATION OF THE REQUIRED RIGHT-
OF-WAY.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GREELEY, COLORADO:
1. The City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor of the City of Greeley to enter into
the necessary Intergovernmental Agreements with Weld County and the Colorado
Department of Transportation to designate the Western Arterial Roadway

Corridor, and to develop an action plan or phases next needed to bring about
future construction.
2. The City Council of Greeley accepts the Study's recommendations and designates
the Western Arterial Roadway Corridor alternative between County Road 54 South
to State Highway 60 and shall be a minimum of 150 feet wide to insure that future
development will not encroach into the corridor.
3. The Western Arterial Roadway Corridor will connect to US 34 Bypass at the
intersection of US 34 Bypass and 83rd Avenue and the City of Greeley recognizes
that 83rd Avenue is the preferred County Arterial Bypass Corridor.
4. The City of Greeley agrees that further study North of County Road 54 to US 34
Bypass is required.
5. 71st Avenue, a presently designated arterial roadway, will connect to the
Western Arterial Roadway as a "T" intersection, South of US 34 Bypass and
North of County Road 54.
6. 71st Avenue, North of "C" Street, across the Poudre River will be redesignated
from an arterial roadway to a collector roadway, to prevent future arterial
roadway construction.
7. The City of Greeley staff is authorized to pursue the designation of this arterial
roadway corridor in the North Front Range MPO Transportation Improvement
Program for future consideration.
8. This Resolution shall become effective 30 days after its passage.
