Dear Commissioner Hall
Weld County Commissioners Office
915 - 10th St
Greeley CO 80621
When we moved onto Weld County Road 10 in 1960, we realized
there would be disadvantages to living in the country as we
had always lived in rural areas before moving to Colorado.
We have been patiently waiting for WCR 10 to be blacktopped
these past 36 years ! Every time we visit friends and rela-
tives who live on smooth rural Iowa roads , it makes us even
more aware how extremely rough Colorado' s WCR 10 is . WCR 10
definitely has the reputation of being one of the roughest
in Weld County. It ' s reputation as to roughness has been
spread over the entire USA by our friends and relatives who
have had to travel WCR 10 to visit us . (One of these rela-
tives was employed by Adams County Iowa Road Department with
that county having one of the lowest economy of the state.
It was a proved fact there that a paved road would pay for
its costs in ten years by not having to be maintained as often. )
Another most important concern of WCR 10 ' s condition is that
of the school buses which are transporting our county ' s most
valuable commodity . . . our school age youth! Numerous tires
have been ruined by the condition of WCR 10. In addition,
heavy clouds of dust increases the chance of vehicle accidents .
PLEASE put WCR 10 on your High Priority List of Weld County
Roads to be blacktopped!
THANK YOU . . . and even with poor road conditions , we are
proud to be Weld County Residents .
Yours truly,

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Bissell:
We appreciate the concerns you expressed in your recent letter regarding the road condition and
the dust problem on Weld County Road (WCR) 10 between WCR 27 and WCR 31. The traffic
count taken this year is 288 vehicles in a 48-hour period, which indicates that this portion of road
qualifies for some of the criteria for paving.
Every year the Board of Weld County Commissioners considers over 100 miles of roads that are
candidates for paving. Only 15 to 20 miles per year actually get paved. The traffic has increased
tremendously on nearly all roads in southern Weld County the past few years. As a result, there
are many miles that deserve consideration for paving. To pave a gravel road requires an entire
rebuild and construction procedure, which is very expensive. Traffic counts, area traffic patterns,
drainage problems, roadside hazards, and other factors must be considered to decide the most
cost-effective asphalt projects that fit within the County's budget. The paving schedule has already
been planning for the 1996 season; however, this section of road will be reviewed for the 1997
construction season.
Please feel free to contact me or the Public Works Department if you have other questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF WELD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Lex i/it
