Box 80632 Greeley, CO 80631 Dear Mr. Baxtor, I have been working with Sherry Lockmon of the Planning Services Department to examine the possibility of implementing a sign plaza program with Weld County. As I had discussed with Sherry, the Town of Castle Rock has effectively implemented a sign plaza program wherein City Council-approved signs are erected in the right-of-way by private contractors to direct people to residential subdivisions under development. The sign plaza program has several advantages: • Unify and integrate sign structures with the County's theme. • Eliminate unsightly temporary signs currently used in the right-of-way by developers • Direct residents to county services and buildings • Clearly identifies the development with Weld County • Provides county control over location and appearance • Provides revenue for the County(indirectly) from the fees paid by developers to be on the sign • Simple implementation and ongoing administration Most county codes do not allow for this type of sign program. In Castle Rock we worked directly with the Town Council to write the authorizing ordinance. We are currently working with Thornton and Broomfield to implement similar programs there.
