Box 758 -' Greeley, CO 80632 Attn: Barbara Kirkmeyer Dear Commissioner Kirkmeyer: I am writing to voice our concerns to the proposed annexation of certain County Roads by the Town of Firestone. We are objecting to the annexation of these roads for the following reasons: 1. The Town of Firestone does not have any property west of Road 13 in its municipal boundaries, so therefore does not have any valid reason to be annexing county roads in this area. Since roads that may be annexed into one municipality do not prevent another municipality from annexing land that may border on these annexed roads, all this will do is to cause future jurisdictional problems for our communities. 2. Although the County may feel that it is burdened by the number of roads that it has to maintain, turning these roads over to a municipality that doesn't have the resources to maintain them is a disservice to the rest of the citizens of the area. 3. The Town of Frederick already has a petition for annexation of the Finley property which lies west of Road 13 and south of Road 20. Since the Town will consider this petition on April 11, 1996, approval of the Finley annexation will make the County's petition for annexation of this portion of Road 13 to the Town of Firestone invalid. 4. The east side of Road 11 beginning at the point referenced by the end of the Grant annexation Rec. No. 02173708 and going north for approximately 1,999.87 feet is already in the Frederick Town limits. Again, this makes the petition invalid. Pc 1 PL;(A-, ,(3ece('° 960574 Although the County and the Town of Firestone may be anxious for the Town of Frederick to establish its northern urban growth boundary, maneuvers of this sort will not hasten that decision. The action only arouses our suspicions of the sincerity of the Town of Firestone and the county Commissioners concerning cooperative planning for the area and leads us to question whether or not the Town of Frederick should continue to participate in any future discussions. Since we feel that progress is being made on various planning issues, this would be unfortunate for all of us. Therefore, for the reasons stated above and to avoid the consequences that the completion of this process will have on the future relationships of all involved, we request that the petition to annex these county roads to the Town of Firestone be withdrawn. Very truly yours, lacier?-112- Edward J. Tagliente, Mayor Town of Frederick EJT/kb cc: file Hello
