This letter is to let you know of an on going situation in the County Clerk's office namely the
motor vehicle department. We have experienced bad attitudes, long waits over many years at the
court house in Greeley, but this last few weeks has just about done it for us.
Monday, August 2, we drove to Greeley from northeast of Berthoud to do some business in the
assessors and planner's office. Since we had recently bought a new car, we thought to save a trip
we would get our plates at the same time. There were at least 50 people in line when we first
arrived there. We took care of our other business and came back in about an hour and the line
was still out the door and back to the far wall to the west. We were not able to stand in line for
hours.
August 9, I called to see if I could get my plates transferred to the new car by mail. The clerk
said "no, I would have to do it in person". So I had her check to see if she had all the necessary
paperwork. She checked the computer and told me there was nothing in their office and since
my temporary sticker is about to expire, I should contact my dealership here in Loveland to see
why they had not sent it over. I then called the Davidson dealership here in Loveland and the
title clerk told me that all the paper work was sent to Greeley on July 26, 1999 and that she has
had constant trouble with that office in either not knowing where the paperwork is or that it is
simply not been processed because they are so backed up and short of help. She offered to call
to Greeley and check on the situation. By the way, the Weld County license clerk told me the
same thing that they are really behind and that there has been a long long waiting line for several
months now.
The clerk from Davidson Chevrolet called over there. First she was on hold for 10 minutes then
a clerk answered and said she would go check. She was gone for 25 minutes and had the
Davidson Chevrolet clerk on hold and never did come back to the phone. She then called back
to the County office and another person said she would check on the problem and get back to
her. Finally after lunch, the clerk did call the lady at the dealership and said she had located the
paperwork at the Fort Lupton office. Why had it taken from July 26 to August 9 just to be found
and then yet to be processed and entered into the computer.
What kind of customer service is this? I am so furious because this is not the first time this has
happened to us and many other people. There were mothers with babies, old people standing in
that line and who knows how long they had to wait in line. I understand Larimer County used to
have this problem until they had to extend their service hours from earlier in the morning to later
in the afternoon to accommodate the customers. Maybe you need to think about adjusting service
hours, getting more help. Whatever it takes to take care of daily business over there.
Please, please, look into this major problem. It's bad enough having to drive half way to
Cheyenne to get to the new county offices but then to have to take another several hours to get
waited on is more than we can handle.
Sincerely,
Mike & Carol Mayo
