Barbara Kirkmeyer
Weld County Commissioner n.
CLEF (
Dear Commissioner Kirkmeyer,
Since my wife and I purchased our home on South Denver Avenue
in December of 1986 , we have seen traffic volume increase, most
alarmingly in the past two years . Our street is the old highway
27 between Brighton and Fort Lupton. We get alot of large truck
traffic, speeders and disregard for our animals and children
in this small residential area south of the Fort Lupton City
Limits .
I have written many letters over the years to get traffic slowed
down and to divert a portion of the truck traffic to Highway
85 which runs parallel to our street a short mile to the west.
My letters were sent to all my State Senators and Representatives
along with the State Patrol . With the exception of an occasional
return letter from some of our State Representatives, Barbara
Kirkmeyer' s office and the Colorado State Patrol are the only
offices concerned enough to help solve our problem.
The Colorado State Patrol is commendable . They are always cooperative,
concerned and helpful . I knew that they had a large area to
cover in a 24 hour day. But I recently found out that they are
extremely short on troopers and even with the tremendous growth
in numbers of people, the State Patrol in Weld County is working
with the same number of men as were funded in 1982 , a total of
21 troopers .
Not only must the Patrol in Weld County cover all county and
state roads including I-25 , I-76 , Colorado 85 and Colorado 34 ,
but they investigate all traffic crashes , rescue stalled motorists,
investigate auto thefts , hazardous materials spills and enforce
drug and traffic violations . What a tremendous responsibility
in one of the largest counties in Colorado!
We would actively support an increase in manpower for this much
needed service for the citizens of Colorado. Thank you for your
consideration.
Sincerely,
Robert and Myrna Hedglin
