PRESS RELEASE
The Weld County Council elected new officers for 1996 at its January 3, 1996
meeting at the Weld Centennial Center in Greeley. Councilwoman Stephanie
Hayward, AT-LARGE representative, was elected President. Councilwoman Pam
Malcom, AT-LARGE representative, was elected Vice-president. In addition, new
Assignment Areas for the Council members were determined. They are as follows:
President Stephanie Hayward-Department of Finance, Central Purchasing, and
Personnel
Vice-president Pam Malcom-Department of Public Works
Councilman Ralph Campbell-Department of Health Services
Councilwoman Judy Curtis-Department of Planning Services
Councilman James Gardner-Department of Human Services
The Council heard a presentation by third graders from Wm. Butler Elementary
School in Ft. Lupton. The students urged the Council to encourage adoption of the
Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly as the State Insect. The Council adopted a resolution in
favor of the Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly becoming the Colorado State Insect.
Attorney William Southard, member of the original Weld County Home Charter
Commission, was at the Council Meeting. He presented his concerns to the Council
regarding County Planning Services and its inspections. Representatives from five
local title companies were also present. They shared their concern regarding the need
for TIMELY information from the County Recording Department.
