RE: OPPOSING CONSTRUCTION OF THE SIXTH RUNWAY AT DENVER
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (D.I.A.)
WHEREAS, the City and County of Denver made numerous representations to
jurisdictions throughout Colorado that the noise impacts resulting from the operations of Denver
International Airport would be minimal, and
WHEREAS, the 1989 Final Environmental Impact Statement established maximum
noise levels, and
WHEREAS, Denver International Airport has been operating more than one year, and
WHEREAS, the residents of Weld County are still experiencing excessive aircraft noise
and other adverse impacts, and
WHEREAS, Denver desires to construct a sixth runway at the airport, and
WHEREAS, Weld County requests that Denver take immediate action to address the
noise problems, and
WHEREAS, Weld County formally opposes the financing and construction of the sixth
runway at Denver International Airport until Denver meets its obligations to the citizens of Weld
County and Colorado by reducing aircraft noise to established acceptable levels.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Board formally urges the Congressional delegation to oppose
any funding or legislation which would allow Denver to construct the sixth runway until Denver
has met its obligations to the citizens of Weld County and Colorado by operating Denver
International Airport at established acceptable noise levels.
