Applicant Program Description: Weld County has utilized the Weld Food Bany a not—for—profit agency , as the vehicle for Community Food and Nutrition funds provided to Weld County, for the past five years. There have been some drastic changes in food programs. This has lead to very uncertain times for those needing assistance. Weld Food Bank has seen a 30% increase in referrals within the last six months. The Supplemental Mini—Box Program has worked quite well for the past several years. It is a program that was developed locally because there was an unmet need for food in our community. All referrals are made by Weld Information and Referral Service (WIRS) and the Salvation Army. Both of these agencies deal with homeless and people at risk of becoming homeless. The mission of the Weld Food Bank is to help alleviate hunger and reduce food waste by providing an efficient, centralized system for collecting, storing and distributing food with community support. As a non—profit agency, we accept food donations from various local producers and suppliers. Other sources of food are food drives, Second Harvest National Food Bank Network, USDA commodities, and food that is purchased.
