Thank you for talking with me about the Geraldine #1 Water Disposal well. We
have done further research into your questions of geologic faulting in the area and we
do not feel that these will affect the Envirocycle Injection Well.
Your information is correct concerning faulting in the Niobrara and Codell
formations in Section 28. However, these faults probably do not extend down into the
Lyons Sandstone. The Codell formation in the area is found at a depth of 7200 feet and
the Lyons sandstone is found at a depth of 9700 feet. The difference in depth of 2500
feet between these formations means that it is uncommon for a fault to extend from one
formation to another. The J sand formation is found between the Codell Formation and
the Lyons Sandstone and this formation does not seem to be faulted in this area.
Another fact to consider is the distance from the injection well to the fault.
Section 28 is 3/4 miles away from the proposed injection well and the well showing
geologic faulting is two* miles away. The Colorado Oil and •Gas Conservation
Commission limits the volume of water injected into a disposal well to a volume that will
extend only 1/4 mile from the injection well. This will ensure that any possible faults 3/4
of a mile away or more will not be affected.
