SHUMATE CHIEF ENGINEER 4Ia4T0F HIcf 9= STATE OF COLORADO DISTRICT NO. 4 1420 2ND STREET GREELEY, COLORADO March 21, 1968 Weld County Planning Commission Greeley, Colorado 80631 Gentlemen: Project No. ST: 0072(2) Longmont -East GLEN MCELDOWNEY DISTRICT ENGINEER The Colorado Department of Highways hereby requests approval of the Weld County Planning Commission to open a gravel pit with the material being used for the construction of proposed highway project beginning at east edge of Longmont and continuing easterly for approximately three miles on State Highway No. 119. Said pit located on property owned by J.Earl RI Vivian D. Schlupp and Gordon A. & Maguerite S. Starbuck lying in the S.W.j, Sec.7, T.2N., R.68W. South of the C.9. & Q. railroad and St. Vrain river in Weldcounty. The proposed pit is in an agricult'n'al zone at present which allows gravel nits and is the closest material to the project that we have been able to obtain. It is estimated that approximately 100,000 Cu. Yds. aill be removed from the it. It is anticipated that the material will be removed sometime between July 1968 and end of the year. (A) Rehabilition Plan It is the intent of the Department of Highways to excavate the pit to a depth of from 71 to 91; which, when finished will leave approximately a 4 font depth of water. With this depth of water and the normal under ground flow of water in a deposit of this type, it is believed that stagnant water will not occur; therefore, mosquito infestation should be greatly reduced. cc: The pit and nit area will be cleaned up and left in a neat condition, with banks sloped to a 1- : 1 slope (B) Time Schedule it is anticipated material for the project will be removed sometime between July and the end of the year 1968. The pit area is partially fenced at present and it is my under— standing that the owners will also poet "No Trespassing" sign. We hope that we have provided sufficient information so that the Planning Commission can act on the request for a temporary gravel pit operation. Sketch of proposed. pit area attached.
