HomeMy WebLinkAbout981654.tiff GRIMM • MINUTES WELD COUNTY COUNCIL - July 21, 1998 Tape #106AB98 -'-r The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County Home Rule Charter at the Galeton Elementary School Tuesday, July 21, 1998, 7:30 p.m. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by President Judy Curtis. Councilman Ralph Campbell and Councilwoman Pam Malcom were present, constituting a quorum of the members. Vice President Dan Oster and Councilman Al Roberts were excused. Also present: Erika Woods, Ginny Shaw, Ken Sudduth, Weld County Compliance Officer Sharyn Frazer, and the Council secretary, Bev Thomas. GUEST SPEAKER: Weld County Compliance Officer Sharyn Frazer explained the Weld County Planning and Zoning Department's community meetings and an education program that has drastically reduced the number of compliance violations. Ms. Frazer explained the process in handling common individual complaints such as noncommercial junk yards and commercial activities in agricultural zones. She also answered questions about violation issues in the flood plain. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Councilwoman Pam Malcom made a motion to approve the June 16, 1998 meeting minutes. Councilman Ralph Campbell seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously. APPROVAL OF REPORT TO THE PEOPLE: Councilman Ralph Campbell made a motion to approve the second quarter Report to the People. Councilwoman Pam Malcom seconded the motion and the Report was adopted unanimously. ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA: There were no additions to the agenda. APPOINTMENTS: The Council's Open House and the Weld County Picnic were noted. CORRESPONDENCE: The Council reviewed the correspondence. Each member received a copy of the 1999 Legislative Issue form and a copy of a Weld County map of the Commissioner districts. COORDINATOR REPORTS: President Judy Curtis tabled the coordinator reports. „y,fiJ� ' q� 981654 Weld County Council Minutes July 21, 1998 -Page 2 UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Weld County Council Open House Council members finalized plans for the Council's July 25, 1998 Open House. Research RE: Setting Weld County's Coroner's Salary President Judy Curtis reported that the Council had considered the following facts as they relate to setting the Coroner's salary: number of employees managed by Coroner, salaries of elected officials in District I counties as set by Colorado Revised Statutes, tying the Coroner's salary to the Sheriffs salary, job description set by Colorado Revised Statutes, benefits including education, travel/mileage, health insurance, the flex spending plan, and a 6% retirement match opportunity. NEW BUSINESS: Research RE: Salary Setting for Weld County Elected Officials President Judy Curtis will research more details regarding Weld County's retirement plan and flex spending plan. Councilman Ralph Campbell requested information regarding the potential amount of retirement that would be available to a Weld County Commissioner after an eight-year term. Payment of the Bills Councilman Ralph Campbell made a motion to pay the following bills: Mileage for Councilman Ralph Campbell $24.30 Mileage and Meals for President Judy Curtis $93.99 Mileage for Councilwoman Pam Malcom $ 7.02 Mileage for Bev Thomas $ 7.02 South Weld Sun Subscription $15.00 Johnstown Breeze Subscription $20.00 Platteville Herald for Legal Notice $ 7.50 Councilwoman Pam Malcom seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. Secretarial Research Requests Councilman Ralph Campbell made a motion that the Council purchase an ergonomically-appropriate office chair for the Council office.
