This report summarizes the activities of the Weld County Council during the fourth quarter of the calendar year 1998. October 20, 1998 Council Meeting -Weld County Centennial Center • Citizens spoke to the Council regarding the setting of Weld County's elected officials' salaries. The Council set the Weld County Sheriffs salary at $04,000. for the years 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002. The Council set the salaries of the Weld County Assessor, Clerk/Recorder, Coroner, and Treasurer at $56,000 for the years 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002. The County Commissioners' salary was set at $56,000 for the years 2001 and 2002. • The Council listened to concerns of citizens regarding these topics: Weld County road grid system and 125 access, Weld County Election Department's processing of election petitions, the legality of Weld County Commissioners circulating petitions for Weld County Council candidates, $4.5 million lost by Weld County approximately ten years ago, the fee for copies from Weld County, a business in the MUD that does not conform to the County's policy for development. November 17, 1998 Council Meeting -Weld County Centennial Center • The Council adopted Resolution 122 ruling there was no conflict of interest in Commissioner Harbert selling property to Gerardo Ramos and Maria Isabel Gutierrez. • Councilman Roberts presented his research into the election petition concerns previously presented to the Council. The Council reviewed a letter from County Attorney Bruce Barker that stated there was no legal problem with Weld County Commissioners circulating petitions for Weld County Council candidates. December 15, 1998 Council Meeting -Weld County Centennial Center • Greeley lawyer Dan Post presented concerns about the lease between Weld County and Winona's Deli. In response to Mr. Post's request for a Council review of the matter Council members committed to get information about this situation. • The Council agreed that ultimately the Weld County Home Rule Charter would need to be changed to clarify the jurisdiction of the Weld County Council to review the Weld County Airport and Weld County Social Services. • The Council discussed the procedure it will use to evaluate the applications to be received by January 5, 1999 for the District I Councilman position. During the fourth quarter of 1998, Council members have researched answers to questions and concerns brought to their attention by citizens of Weld County. In that process Council members have talked periodically with the Commissioners and various Elected Officials and Department Heads. 990113 /99 Weld County Council Report to the People January 5, 1999-Page 2 This report is not meant to be an exclusive enumeration of the activities entered into by the Council. The County Council believes that the Weld County Home Rule Charter continues to be a viable tool for the citizens of Weld County. Al Roberts, of Mead, was elected vice president. Newly-elected Councilmen Dwaine Kurtz and Rob Masden were seated on the Council. The Weld County Council will meet January 7, 1999, 6:00 p.m., at the Weld County Centennial Center, 915 10th Street, Greeley, CO to interview six District I Councilman candidates. The candidates are eligible to be interviewed since they submitted a letter of intent to serve/resume to the Council by January 5.
