Dear Chairman Hall:
As you are aware, we review all abatement petitions in excess of
$1,000. We attempt to process the petitions through our system within
one week's time. Some petitions take longer because of additional
research.
If you do not receive petitions back from us within thirty (30)
days, you may want to contact Diane Champney of this office. We can
begin investigating the location of missing abatements. Locating
abatements may help avoid excessive interest charges as statute provides
that interest must be paid on the refund from the date the taxes are
paid through the date the abatement is processed by the treasurer.
