Board of County Commissioners
Weld County
Greeley, Colorado
Gentlemen:
For the past several years the Windsor Beacon has published legal notices and
other official advertising for Weld County. As one of the many newspapers in
this county, we have been proud to be the official publication for such material.
Nevertheless, with increasing printing and postage costs we were forced to
increase our bid this year. You may recall that last year we were able to
decrease our cost to the County by some 12 percent over the previous year. In
fact, we had suggested a two-year bid cycle which would have locked the
County into a lower, long-term bid.
While we understand the need for fair competition in the public sector and
realize another newspaper has bid lower, we ask you to place a value on
continuity. The legal notice system the Beacon has developed with the
Purchasing Department, Accounting Department, Planning Department, Clerk
to the Board and County Treasurer works smoothly and well. The last thing
Weld County's busy employees need is to re -invent the wheel when it is not
broken.
The Purchasing Department, I'm sure, will give you a comparison of the
difference in costs over a year's time based on the current bids. We simply ask
that you include the value of continuity when evaluating them.
Whatever your decision, we at the Beacon have enjoyed our association with
the Weld County employees with whom we have worked over the past few
years. Especially helpful have been Sharon in Planning, Marcia in Purchasing,
Barb and Teresa in Accounting, and Carol, Lynn, Kim and Shelly in the Clerk to
the Board's office.
Thank you again for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Roger A. Lipker
