Johnson 1179 WCR 21 Brighton, CO 80601 Dear Mr. Johnson: I am responding to the dust control portion of your letter dated January 11, 1999. Adjacent landowners requested and received approval to apply a dust suppressing chemical to WCR 21 between WCR 2 and WCR4. You were concerned with the roughness of the road and its slick nature after precipitation fell on it. County policy permits local residents to apply approved dust control materials on County roads adjacent to their properties if the resident perceives that vehicular traffic is causing a dust problem. That policy also grants the County sole authority to regrade roadway segments previously treated with dust control material whenever necessary to maintain a safe roadway surface for the traveling public. As you might expect, there is often a conflict with the local resident and Public Works Department staff when the decision is made to regrade a treated segment of roadway. The homeowner invariably believes they have not gotten their"money's worth." I have been informed that this segment of roadway is now on a routine grading schedule. In the future, Public Works staff will consider, on a case by case basis, the application of clean aggregate to roadways which have received dust control treatment to minimize any slickness which occurs from precipitation. If you have additional questions on this matter, please contact Frank B. Hempen, Jr., P.E., Director of Public Works, at (970)356-4000, Ext. 3750. Thank you for your concern on this issue. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS 1J Dale K. Ha , air pc: Frank B. Hempen, Jr., P.E. Director of Public Works/County Engineer WCR 21 file y/ a6& 990788 L///;2_ /9? Hello
