WE ARE HEREBY PETITIONING the County of Weld to
lower the tile culvert located on East Third Avenue and
South Sixth Street , in the Town of Gill , Colorado , :so that
water can escape , rather than have it lie stagnant in the
Town , causing a health hazard ; i .e . a mosquito population

RE: Town of Gill Drainage Petition
DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS DATE: September 26, 1996
PERSON REQUESTING: Drew Scheltinga, County Engineer
Brief description of the problem/issue: We received a petition from the residents of the Town of
Gill to improve the drainage situation. Commissioner Hall, Dave Becker, and Dale Elliott visited
the site and determined that further survey work was needed in order to improve the drainage
problem and what the extent of the work might be. It was decided, because of the present work
schedule,that the surveying will not be performed until this winter. A recommendation will be made
to the Board, and the Board may then decide whether or not the County will perform the work.
Attached is a draft letter for the Chair's signature responding to the petition.
What options exist for the Board? (Include consequences,impacts,costs, etc. of options.) The
Board may approve or amend the letter.
Recommendation to the Board: I recommend that the Board approve the attached draft letter.

Dear Ms. Hamilton:
This letter is in response to your petition to the Board of Weld County Commissioners regarding the
drainage problem in the unincorporated Town of Gill.
Commissioner Dale Hall and Dave Becker and Dale Elliott of the Weld County Public Works
Department visited Gill to review the drainage problem. It was determined that surveying and
mapping information would be necessary in order to improve the drainage situation.
Presently, the Public Works Department is working on new construction prior to the winter season
and will not be available to survey until November or December. Surveys will be performed this
winter and a plan will be determined. After the extent of the work is known, the Board of Weld
County Commissioners will consider the project this winter. At that point, we can advise you as to
a course of action to alleviate the problems.
