The feedlot is existing and has been in operation for a number years. The site is in an agricultural zone, although there are a few rural acreage residences adjacent to the site. The applicant is splitting off 8 . 28 acres along the east edge of the property. The applicant is also proposing to enlarge the runoff pits and use the waste on approximately 27 acres of irrigated alfalfa. There is a 15 day requirement to get the runoff storage pits pumped out so they have capacity to capture the next runoff event. Our main recommendations would be to conduct annual soil nutrient tests and to have the capability to pump the waste to adjacent fields and/or truck off site in the event the 27 acre field cannot be irrigated or the soil tests indicate a high level of nutrients. We discussed these recommendations with the applicant and they have the capability to pump the waste to fields adjacent to the west side of the feedlot and they have tank wagons they can use to haul the waste to their other farms. The extra acreage for waste disposal should be adequate to address these concerns. Sincerely, Frank R. The existing access is from WCR 62 via the driveway at the west entrance to the homestead and feedlot. The liquid waste run-off from the pins is collected by a storage lagoon and pumped on to the fields with irrigation water to supply nitrogen for the crop production.
