Dear Commissioners:
Enclosed find copies of the letter I sent to Dept. of Transportation, Maintenance
Section 1 & Section 1's reply.
Because I have observed the situations described, and have had conversations with
individuals who have had first hand experiences,I feel compelled to pursue this matter
before someone gets killed due to ROAD RAGE brought on by increasing the US 34
speed limit. I don't know when US 34 was expanded to 4 lanes and understand that
budget considerations were as pressing then as it now--but the intersection of US 34 &
WC rd 15 now is the only intersection between I 25 and Greeley that has the density of
morning traffic that has to do more than drive defensively and give 110% right of way.
As stated in Section I letter, there are 77 house holds in Indianhead Sub. Further research
shows 2.5 vehicles per working house hold, 75%uses US 34 to I 25 Monday through
Friday.
Many of these commuters tell me they leave 15 to 25 minutes early just to navigate
across US 34 east bound traffic.
As human beings, interested in making life safe and enjoyable for tax payers, surely
there is an agency that would look into this matter, free up funds to provide a west bound
acceleration lane. Knowing these circumstances, and not pushing the cause further, I
would not be comfortable looking at my self in the mirror when I learn of a fatality at
US 34 &

Dear Sirs:
As a board member of Indianhead Subdivision, located at the intersection of Co 34 &
Weld Co Rd. 15, I would like to bring to your attention a critical traffic merging problem
when entering Co 34 from south WC 15.
The 34 -WC15 intersection has NO WEST BOUND acceleration lane and the west
bound traffic, perhaps because they don't know this; gives no quarter to merging traffic.
On far to many occasions west bound Co 34 traffic in the right hand lane pull into the left
lane and are in the same lane as west turning WC 15 traffic, causing a few hair raising
seconds. Sometime one or two are not going to be as fortunate.
Because of the traffic involved a NEW merging lane for west Co34 would certainly be
appropriate alleviating the hazard for the 100+Monday-Friday commuters entering
Co34 at WC15 and for Co34 through traffic.
Sincerely, z 1e

Dear Mr. Cash:
I recently received your April 27, 1998 letter requesting the placement of a left-turn acceleration
lane for northbound to westbound traffic at US 34 and WCR 15.
Currently, funds do not exist within the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)
maintenance and operations budgets to complete this type of work. Therefore, projects of this
type need to be considered during the planning process within the North Front Range
Transportation and Air Quality Council. I will be forwarding your letter and my response to this
council for their consideration.
Projects within the North Front Range are prioritized using an established criteria system. Safety
is given the highest consideration. Through this mechanism, transportation funds are directed to
the locations of greatest cost benefit.
Thank you for your interest in traveler safety.
Sincerely,
Jeffery R. Kullman, P.L.
