Loveland, Colorado 80537 February 18, 1997 Weld County Board of County Commissioners 915 Tenth Street Greeley, Colorado 80632 Dear Board Members: Request the boards consideration of paving the remainder of Weld County Road (WCR) 15 between US Highway 34 and WCR 54. Paving the 1.8 mile stretch of road would improve the safety at the intersection of US 34 and WCR 15 and the people traveling over this now gravel, often washboard, road, benefiting more then just the residence of Indianhead Estates. With the increased traffic on US highway 34, it has become more of a hazard for north bound traffic on WCR 15 to either cross US 34 or make a left turn onto US 34. Although the wide shoulder can be used for a right-hand turn onto US 34, there is no acceleration lane accommodating a left-hand turn. Paving WCR 15 from the entrance to Indianhead Estates, south to WCR 54 would offer both the residence along WCR 15 and Indianhead Estates the opportunity to avoid turning onto US 34 by traveling south on WCR 15. This would provide an alternate route for those traveling south toward Johnstown, Milliken, Denver, Longmont, or south side of Loveland. Diverting some of the traffic south on WCR 15 would also help reduce traffic across the I25 US 34 intersection where there is increased hazard from traffic to and from the outlet mall and businesses at that intersection. There are approximately 65 family units in Indianhead estates. On the average there are two licensed drivers in each unit; about 130 drivers. There are approximately nine family units along WCR 15; an additional 18 drivers. The two feedlots, at or near Weld County Rd. 54 and 15, and their employees also use this road. Many people in the sub -division do business in Johnstown (i.e. doctor, to; & Pw;CM 970523 dentist, banking and shopping). The sub -division is in the RE5J school district where parents and children participating in school activities travel to the Johnstown/Milliken schools. The Indianhead Homeowners Association would like to thank you for your consideration of this matter. Sincerely, John McCoy President, lndianhead Estates Homeowners Association takss VIIIIDe COLORADO March 6, 1997 John McCoy President Indianhead Estates Homeowner's Association 6790 Comanche Court Loveland, CO 80537 PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT P.O. BOX 758 GREELEY, COLORADO 80632 PHONE: (970) 356-4000 EXT. 3750 FAX: (970) 352-2868 Dear Mr. McCoy: This is in response to your letter dated February 18, 1997, to the Board of Weld County Commissioners regarding paving Weld County Road (WCR) 15 between U.S. Highway 34 and WCR 54. The Commissioners have established criteria by which roads are considered for paving. The criteria are cost, traffic, safety, and geographic considerations. In any case, the Commissioners do not consider roads with less than 200 vehicles per day. At the present time, there are no serious candidates for paving that have much less than 300 vehicles per day. WCR 15, south of Indianhead Subdivision, is a low traffic roadway. Our most recent traffic count was in the summer of 1996. It showed only 119 vehicles per day. In light of the many unpaved roads in Weld County that already have substantial traffic, this stretch of WCR 15 cannot be considered at this time. If you have further questions, feel free to call me.
