SUBJECT: Grant Application for Community Earth Day 2000 Project
DATE: August 12, 1999
Enclosed for Board review and approval is a grant application from Weld County Department of
Public Health and Environment to the Wal-Mart Foundation for funding for a community earth
day project in the amount of$2,000.
The project, an Eco-Thon event, would involve educational booths, displays and games. It is
proposed for Centennial Village in Greeley, but the Greeley Mall would also be a suitable site.
Children will be the primary targets, but all ages will be encouraged to attend. The grant will
require matching dollars which are being sought from past partners including the City of Greeley
as well as many other local businesses. The $2,000 is requested for advertising, printing
materials for the event, booth supplies and game prizes.
I recommend your approval of this grant application.

Dear Jonnie Shommer:
Attached please find our completed grant application for$ 2,000 for a community Earth Day
2000 project. I have experience with this type of event and have helped to organize two past
Eco-Thon events. These past events were funded by Clean Air Colorado, which has cut and
limited use of funds in the past years. The event, although successful, hasn't found alternative
funding and has not been implemented here in our region for over two years now.
The event itself is proposed for Centennial Village in Greeley and would involve educational
booths and displays. Children will be the primary targets for participating but we will encourage
all ages to attend. A game board will be designed that asks questions, such as "Where does your
street drain lead?" Participants get the answers by going to various booths, then they can enter
completed forms to win prizes.
Matching dollars and time are committed by our agency and will also be sought from past
partners (including the City of Greeley, as well as many other local businesses). The $ 2,000 is
requested for advertising, printing materials for event, booth supplies, and to help purchase some
prizes.
I hope you will find that our project meets the objectives of your Community Involvement
Program. Please call me, at 304-6415 ext. 2206, if you have any questions on this matter!
Sincerely,
Robin Newbrey, MPH
