WELD COUNTY, COLORADO

The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, met in regular
session as the Board of Social Services in full conformity with the laws of the
State of Colorado at the regular place of meeting in the Weld County Centennial
Center, Greeley, Colorado, June 30, 1999, at the hour of 9:00 a.m.
ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by the Chair and on roll call the following
members were present, constituting a quorum of the members thereof:
Commissioner Dale K. Hall, Chair
Commissioner Barbara J. Kirkmeyer, Pro-Tem - EXCUSED
Commissioner George E. Baxter
Commissioner M. J. Geile
Commissioner Glenn Vaad
Also present:
County Attorney, Bruce T. Barker
Acting Clerk to the Board, Esther E. Gesick
Comptroller, Claud Hanes
MINUTES: Commissioner Vaad moved to approve the minutes of the Board of Social
Services meeting of June 28, 1999, as printed. Commissioner Baxter seconded
the motion, and it carried unanimously.
WARRANTS: Claud Hanes, Comptroller, presented the warrants for approval by the Board in
the amount of$761.20. Commissioner Baxter moved to approve the warrants
as presented by Mr. Hanes. Commissioner Vaad seconded the motion, which
carried unanimously.
BUSINESS:
NEW: CONSIDER CHILD CARE AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES AND AUTHORIZE
CHAIR TO SIGN - UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO: Judy Griego,
Director of Social Services, stated under this agreement the University of
Northern Colorado will conduct a statistically valid child care needs assessment
of parents who have children aged infant through seventeen years. Ms. Griego
stated this assessment will assist the Social Services Department in determining
priority needs when planning for the years 2000 through 2003. She stated for
these services the University will be reimbursed a total of$12,921 in Child Care
Block Grant funds, for a term beginning April 26, 1999, and ending August 15,

1999. Commissioner Geile moved to approve said agreement and authorize the
Chair to sign. Seconded by Commissioner Vaad, the motion carried
unanimously.
CONSIDER NOTIFICATION OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AWARD AND
AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN -WELD COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN
SERVICES: Ms. Griego stated the Families, Youth, and Children Commission
has reviewed the proposed changes and recommends approval. She explained
the revision will provide for the increase in funding from $50,000 to $55,000 for
the Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program with the Weld County
Department of Human Services for a period ending September 30, 1999. Ms.
Griego stated the Social Services Department will not be reapplying for the
grant beginning October 1, 1999. Commissioner Baxter moved to approve said
award and authorize the Chair to sign. Seconded by Commissioner Vaad, the
motion carried unanimously.
CONSIDER NOTIFICATION OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AWARD AND
AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN - CATHOLIC CHARITIES NORTHERN: Ms.
Griego stated this award has the same term as the previous item discussed and
the funding for the Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program with Catholic
Charities Northern will increase from $50,000 to $55,000 and the Department
of Social Services will not reapply for the grant beginning October 1, 1999.
Commissioner Vaad moved to approve said award and authorize the Chair to
sign. Seconded by Commissioner Geile, the motion carried unanimously.
Let the minutes reflect that the above and foregoing actions were attested to
and respectfully submitted by the Acting Clerk to the Board.
There being no further business, this meeting was adjourned at 9:10 a.m.
