Board of County Commissioners:
At the October 3, 1996 Island Grove Regional Park Board meeting, two very important
recommendations were made to the City Council and County Commissioners regarding the
Island Grove Regional Park Master Plan and the old County Hospital.
The Board strongly requests that the City Council and County Commissioners jointly fund the
estimated $15,000 for Island Grove Regional Park Master Plan. This plan will be more
complicated than the previous five year plan. The plan will require the preparation of several
park development options due to the problems associated with changes in the floodway, Vision
with Pride building, traffic circulation issues, old County Hospital usage, etc. This project is very
important to the future of the park.
The second recommendation from the Board is related to the old county hospital. The board
recommends to the County Commissioners that the Museum Board be authorized to solicit a
feasibility grant to study the possibility of restoring the old County Hospital. The study and
future use of the facility shall be completed no later than one year from the date the County
vacates the facility. After one year it is understood that the facility will be removed from or
demolished at the current site unless other action is recommended by the Island Grove Regional
Park Board.
The Board looks forward to the Commissioners' decision related to these recommendations.
