Weld County Commissioners Gentlemen: I feel I live in a no -mans land ! ' ' I live on and off in Weld County close to Brighton's 19th Street. The problem I have is the high speed traffic on what they call---WCR 2, Adams County 168th Ave, Baseline Rd. and it may go by many other names. I have all of the above law enforcement agencies but no one really wants to give me who has the enforcement power to control traffic, on what ever you want to call this road. :C must say the Colorado does make an effort from time to time to slow the traffic down. The problem they only stay for a short time. Last year I talked to one of their ;officers and he told me they just don't have enough help for the large area they have to maintain. The main problem I feel is if you want to make a left turn on to 19th st. fri::im Baseline road. If there is any traffic coming from the West you have to come to a complete stop and you have to .just hope and pray no one will rear end you coming over the Fulton Canal. Traveling at a high speed you can not see some one stopped at this intersection and these people have to travel on the right side of your vehicle. This last week this did happen again and the vehicle did alot of damage to my neighbors property. I have not iced also the same thing can happen traveling West again by the Brighton Lateral Canal. You cannot see what is below it if you travel faster than 35mph and plan to stop in a hurry. The semi's travel this road at very high speeds and nothing is even done. The ones lately .{ have seen have Atwood on the tanker. I have seen cars traveling East on this road going over the Fulton Canal and actually leave the pavement until they get to about the mailboxes on the North side of the road. I feel. the 35mph is a very safe speed in this area, I feel there should be much better enforcement or a traffic or caution signal put up to slow this traffic_ down in this area. It should be something which would be 24 hours a day instead of seeing a law enforcement officer for 30 minutes once a month I also feel this a powder keg waiting to explode or some one getting killed because there is so much traffic on this no - mans road. thank you for taking tiriie to read this letter. Nancy Satter ti 5;37 r i P/ 970714 fet,, 111k COLORADO mEmoRAnDum To From Subject: Commissioner Harbert Date Public Work Coordinator Drew Scheltinga, County Enginee r) nnt March 20, 1997 County Line Road at North 19th Avenue in Brighton This is in response to a letter from Nancy Satler received by the Commissioners on March 5, 1997. A copy of the letter is attached. There was no return address or telephone number on the letter, nor was there a return address on the envelope. No Satlers are listed in the Brighton Telephone Directory, nor were there any Satlers indicated in the area on property owner indexes; therefore, I am unable to respond directly to Ms. Satler. Everything that Ms. Satler cites in her letter is correct. There may be some confusion regarding speed limit enforcement. Brighton has annexed both sides of County Line Road west of 19th Avenue. East of 19th Avenue, Weld County is on the north side, and Adams County is on the south side. Ms. Satler's complaint regarding visibility for eastbound traffic over the Fulton Ditch and the Brighton Lateral Ditch is valid; however, it would take a major reconstruction of County Line Road to correct the problem. County Line Road is clearly posted at 35 miles per hour in both directions. If vehicles would obey the speed limit, the sight distance at the ditch crossings would be acceptable.
