RE: APPROVE 1999 COMMUNITY FOOD AND NUTRITION PROGRAM APPLICATION
AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Board has been presented with a 1999 Community Food and Nutrition
Program Application between the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board
of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Social Services, and
the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, commencing upon full execution of said application,
and ending June 30, 2000, with further terms and conditions being as stated in said application,
and
WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to approve said application, a
copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, ex-officio Board of Social Services, that the 1999 Community Food and
Nutrition Program Application between the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through
the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Social
Services, and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs be, and hereby is, approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chair be, and hereby is, authorized
to sign said application.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 13th day of September, A.D., 1999.

RE: Community Food and Nutrition Program 1 9 Application
Enclosed for Board approval is a Community Food and Nutrition Program 1999
Application. This application is being submitted to the Colorado Department of Local
Affairs.
The major provisions of the Application are as follows:
1. The term of the Application commences when a contract is executed between the
Board of County Commissioners and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs
and ends June 30, 2000.
2. The Weld County Department of Social Services is submitting an application on
behalf of the Weld Food Bank for a total of$3,110.90. This money will serve a
total of 1,037 people who will receive food to supplement their diet.

Federal Objective/s Grant Complies With:
X a: To coordinate existing private and public food assistance resources,
whenever such coordination is determined to be inadequate;to better
serve low-income communities;
b: To assist low-income communities to identify potential sponsors of
child nutrition programs and initiate new programs in underserved and
unserved areas; and
c: To develop innovative approaches at State and local levels to meet
the nutrition needs of low-income people.
Applicant Program Description:
The combination of high rent and low paying entry level jobs is placing a
huge number of people in the category of "at risk" for homelessness . The
population of hungry people is growing.
The Weld Food Bank will access high quality nutritional food and make it
available to qualified individuals . Sources of food will include community
food drives , Second Harvest , USDA, local producers , and grocery stores .
With $3 , 110 . 90 , 1037 people will receive food to supplement their diet . The
food will include , but not be limited to , such items as canned/fresh/frozen
fruits and vegetables , juice , cereal , and high protein foods .
In order to reach the target population , coordination will take place with
the American Red Cross , Catholic Charities , Greeley Center for Independence ,
Connections for Independent Living , Ft . Lupton Housing Authority , and RSVP
(Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) .
