The mission of the Weld Food Bank is to help aleviate hunger and reduce food waste by providing an efficient, centralized sysyem for collecting, storing, and distributing food with community support. As a non-profit agency, Weld Food Bank accepts food donations from various local producers and suppliers. Other sources of food are food drives, Second Harvest Food Bank Network, USDA commoditites, and food that is purchase by the food bank. In operating an emergency food box program for over eight years, Weld Food Bank has learned that some low income persons, who have nutritional needs, do not receive assistance through established nutrition programs. By working with the coordinated Food Box Committee, comprised of twenty-five local agency representatives a supplememtal mini -box was designed. This concept has worked well for a number of years.
