COLORADO SUBJECT: Bridge 5\42A, Change Order No. 1
Weld County contracted with Loris and Associates to design and inspect the construction
of Bridge 5\42A. The original contract amount was $39,900.
The configuration of the bridge and roadway presented difficult problems when taking into
consideration the length of the bridge, vertical grades of the roadway, and floodplain
upstream of the bridge. Loris submitted three preliminary alternatives and was directed to
proceed to final design on one option. As the design progressed, it was determined the
roadway elevations required to meet a 45 mph speed limit would create increased
floodplain elevations upstream the bridge. A change in the bridge and roadway elevations
were directed causing Loris to change the final design and thereby losing one week's work.
We have been negotiating this change order with Loris since April 8, 1999. We feel the
attached request dated July 12, 1999, reflects the actual cost incurred by Loris and is fair
and reasonable.
I request your approval of this change order in the amount of$2,960.00.

As we discussed, Loris and Associates has incurred extra costs resulting from directions
received 2/11/99. These costs have been limited to roadway alignment and grade. These
costs were incurred from Feb. 11, 1999 to April 2, 1999.
The following summary, of expended man-hours, reflects the additional work:
Keith Scoggins 37.0 hr @ $80 =$2,960
