MEMORANDUM COLORADO TO: Drew Scheltinga, County Engineer DATE: January 8, 1998 )1( ) FROM: Dean Dreher, Civil Tech Ill .%v SUBJECT: Placement of stop signs at WCR 59 and WCR 18 Due to the recent installation of a signalized railroad crossing just south of the intersection, the Weld County Engineering Department is considering changing the regulatory signing at the intersection of WCR 59 and WCR 18. A traffic study revealed that the intersection in question meets the warrants indicated in item number one as stated below . The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Section 8C-6, states that discretion should be used at a signalized crossing within 200 feet of an intersection. Regulatory signing shall be placed to minimize the chance of vehicle entrapment. Therefore, it is my recommendation to place stop signs at the intersection as indicated per the attached diagram. It will be necessary to remove the old stop signs at the railroad crossing due to the newly installed automated crossing gates. The warrants are: 1. Intersection of a less important road with a main road where application of the normal right-of- way rule is unduly hazardous. Sight distance is restricted from two directions. 2. Street entering a through highway or street. 3. Unsignalized intersection in a signalized area 4. Other intersections where a combination of high speed, restricted view, and serious accident record indicates a need for control by a stop sign. cc: WCR 59 & 18 m:AwpfilesVdeanA5918.dd 980080 Hello
