By service,we mean more than just the number of channels we provide on our cable system. We also mean the quality and reliability of service we provide to our customers. To accomplish that goal, US Cable has been investing more time and money in every aspect of our operation. We have been reviewing every aspect of our operation, large and small,to find ways to become even better. We are currently in the process of moving our customer service department from the Denver location to our new office in Arvada,CO. We have downsized the customer service department from a regional call center to taking calls for Colorado only. Very shortly we will be installing a new phone system for better communications with our customers. Soon we will be converting to a new database/billing system. We are continuing our emphasis on more employee training to make sure our people are professional and helpful to customers. We are investing in improvements in our cable systems, from the installation of back-up power supplies(where needed)to better test equipment, from new reception antennas to the replacement of older electronics with advanced, digital capable units within our receive sites. Cable also does more in the community. When new homes are built in the community, US Cable often extends its system to serve new residents. US Cable also supports the community through the employment of local residents where possible, and the payment of franchise fees to local government. We support local charities, and also local schools through the Cable in the Classroom program. In short, US Cable is striving to be a good citizen in the community, while also providing an excellent service to its customers. We are very motivated to achieve high standards. We operate in an extremely competitive environment now, with competition from Direct TV,Primestar,Echostar, USSR, and [wireless cable]. These national companies now serve over 8,000 000 customers, a base created in just four years. Fortunately,we have not lost many customers to the competition, but with these aggressive competitors,we need to constantly improve our operations in order to keep and grow our customer base. Of course, the product most customers desire from their cable system is the programming. Over the past few years we have made major additions to our program line-up. This year we are pleased to announce the following additions to the channel line-up: Travel Channel-'The Great Barrier Reef,London,The Grand Canyon . . . places that conjure a myriad of images in our minds and awaken the spirit of wanderlust that lives within us. Whether you are planning a day trip or a dream vacation, The Travel Channel provides ideas on where to go and what to do and is dedicated to helping you learn about the people, places and cultures of our world. Turner Classic Movies features the greatest stars in the best movies ever made. Up to 400 different movies a month-more than any other channel. Plus original programming and the best collection of shorts, trailers and screen tests ever assembled. And it's all commercial free. The greatest movies of all time. All the time. Coisen t age; : CA 991614 7-99 The added investment described above has of course increased the costs of doing business. Programming costs much more now than ever before, and with factors such as major league sports contracts, programming will continue to rise in the future. Other major costs, such as salaries, benefits, material costs, billing costs and marketing are also rising ahead of inflation. These added costs require us to adjust our rates this year. At the same time,we are constrained by competition from raising our prices too much;if our prices rise too much, our customers have other options to switch to, such as DBS. The new rates will take effect on August 1', 1999. (Please note that our rates are for"whole house"service to all outlets;our competitors charge extra for each TV set connected and for additional equipment. ) Current New Basic Cable $27.05 $29.05 HBO $9.95 $9.95 Cinemax $9.95 $9.95 Disney $9.95 $9.95 Additional outlets No charge No charge Converter Rental $1.50 $1.50 Service Advantage Plan $_75 $1.00 (formerly Cable Guard) Installation $49.95 $49.95 Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
