Box 758 Greeley, Colorado 80632 RE: Proposal for Bird of Prey Occupying Trees On-site Survey and Black-footed Ferret Survey at the Hokestra Gravel Pit Expansion Site in Weld County, Colorado Dear Mr. Nelson: This letter serves as a proposal for a Birds of Prey survey and a black-footed ferret survey to be conducted at a gravel mine expansion site located near the St. Vrain River in Weld County. I understand that the scope of work for the birds of prey survey would include: * ground reconnaissance of the project area; * determination of any birds of prey nests at the project area, including the species occupying the nest; • prepare report of results of the survey; and * submit report to Weld County. I understand that die scope of work for the black-footed ferret survey would include: * ground reconnaissance of the project area; * determination of density of black-tailed prairie dogs on-site and acreage of continuous prairie dog colony extent; * if density and acreage of prairie dog colony is found to be sufficient, night surveys would be conducted; * prepare report of results of the survey;, and * submit report to Weld County. y9aI15 Mr. Greg Nelson Page 2 The estimated cost for the birds of prey survey and the black-footed ferret survey at the Hokestra gravel pit would be $300.00 and $700.00 total fixed cost, respectively. This cost does not include the night surveys for the ferret since preliminary field reconnaissance indicates the acreage and density do not meet requirements for that level of surveying. The cost estimates include the tasks outlined above and drafting, review, and other direct costs. If you have any questions, or require additional information, please feel free to call me at 970-635-9183. Sincerely, yla, eif (1_ . C1I LG y Darcy A. Da e K. all, air MEMORANDUM TO: Pat Persichino DATE: 8/11/1999 Director of General Services Wine FROM: Frank B. Hempen, Jr. Director of Public Works/County Engineer fic • SUBJECT: Professional Services Contract with Dar Tiglas COLORADO Attached is a proposal from Darcy Tiglas for a biological survey to be performed at the liokestra Pit. The survey for birds of prey and the black-footed ferret was required as a condition of approval for the pit, but it was never accomplished. I am requesting your assistance in obtaining approval of this proposal. The Public Works Department has extensive experience with Ms. Tiglas on biological surveys/studies and found her work to be highly regarded by State and Federal agencies responsible for review of this type of work. I have reviewed the scope. It is acceptable and consistent with the requirements set forth in the Hokestra Pit conditions for approval. It is our experience that Ms. Tiglas' fees arc typically very nominal, which is again the case for these surveys. It is my judgement that her proposed fee of$1,000.00 is less than any other firm could propose. wpfiles\frank Vtiglasho.wpd (ljj O1('"lw° Qk ` 1 992113 Hello
