Hairstreak butterfly.
We faxed the enclosed letters to Weld County legislators today. Senate Bill 122 regarding
adopting the butterfly as the state insect will probably be heard by the legislators Monday,
February 12.

The Board of Weld County Commissioners urges the state legislature to adopt a state insect.
Elementary schools statewide are recommending the Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly be adopted
for the following reasons:
1. It will make citizens more aware of insects as pollinators, food for birds and other
animals, and as predators to harmful insects.
2. It is beautiful and has the colors of both the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies
professional sports teams.
3. The Colorado Hairstreak is native to our state and does not migrate north of Colorado .
We encourage you to support Senate Bill 122.
