Box 641 Mead, Colorado 80542 Re: Request for improvements to the intersection of WCR 7 and State Highway 66 Dear Ms. Tanski: Your letter dated March 5, 1999, addressed to the Weld County Department of Planning regarding the referenced issue has been referred to the Public Works Department for reply. Because this intersection is on a state highway, it falls under the purview of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). 1 am forwarding a copy of your letter to CDOT for their review. There is one other opportunity for upgrading this intersection. It is located in an area encompassed by the Upper Front Range (UFR) Regional Transportation Plan. The UFR is composed of Weld, Larimer, and Morgan Counties excluding the areas generally bounded by Foil Collins, Greeley, and Loveland. Regional transportation plans include projects on state-managed roadways, which are selected through a public participation process and forwarded to CDOT. This plan is currently under review. I have already included this project as a candidate on the new regional plan, which is currently being updated. All regional transportation plans are fiscally constrained, and there are always many more projects than funding available. The UFR is currently in the process of evaluating and ranking all proposed 990791 Ms. Alyce M. Tanski, President March 29, 1999 Page 2 projects to determine which should be included in the fiscally constrained transportation plan. The selection process is accomplished by representatives from each of the counties and CDOT. This process will continue over the next month to six weeks. It is, of course, premature to speculate on the ranking of this proposal. It was a Weld County candidate in the last regional transportation plan and was not successful. I appreciate your input. We will continue to promote this project whenever possible. Very truly yours, i Frank B. Box 758 Greeley, CO 80632 On behalf of the 150 residents and property owners of Mulligan Lake Estates, located in the Town of Mead, Weld County, Colorado, the Executive Board of the Mulligan Lake Estates Homeowners' Association is voicing concern over the dangerous intersection at State Highway 66 and Weld County Road 7. There is no traffic light nor are there left turn lanes to handle the ever increasing traffic at this intersection. Traffic on SR 66 has at least tripled in the past few years and will only increase in the future as this area's population continues to rapidly grow. This intersection is particularly dangerous due to its proximity to I-25, the fact that it is located at the crest of a hill, and the fog conditions that often exist in this area. One of our residents has already been killed at another dangerous intersection on SR 66 at County Line 1 Road. He was killed the day before the construction of left turn lanes at this intersection was begun. We would like to see the SR66-Weld County Road 7 intersection improved before more such tragedies occur. Sincerely, JaiL J Mulligan Lake Estates Homeowners' Association, Inc. Alyce M. Tanski, President 4/5/99 Per Commissioner Kirkmeyer - no response needed. This is a proposed project for a CDOT - UFR committee. Cn.Z.F.1 69galiC2CIL Hello
