Dear Mr.Hall
This letter concerns the proposed high-density development of the Northfield property(specifically the area
between Highway 52,CR 5,CR 12,and CR 7). My husband and I have lived next to this property fix 19
years and we are very concerned about Erie's desire to build high-density housing in this area.
We bought our property to create our own little ranch of livestock and to enjoy the agricultural life
surrounding us.We worked bard to increase our property value and to have a country home we are proud
of and enjoy living in.We watched our neighbors work to turn their little piece of land into agricultural and
ranch heaven. We've seen the addition of"tanehettes"on five to 10 acres that fit the neighborhood. We
never imagined that our neighborhood would be destroyed by the completely incompatible proposal the
City of Erie is considering. We live in Weld County, the largest agricultural county in the state, and we are
proud of it Besides the emotional horror of this proposal we have several other concerns:
• The underground mines. These mines are all over this area and they can and do mm into open pits.
We have, filled in numerous large holes with a bacichoe in the neighboring pasture that we leased
and have had to check the entire area every spring and fill the new holes in before we let our
horses loose to graze. How can a developer build high-density housing on an area that is full of
tunnels? In a few years are we going to see houses that have fallen into the ground(didn't this just
tapper in Golden?)Hello lawyers, good bye property valves.
• Most properties here have livestock including horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens.
People are here to live the agricultural and ranch life. That lifestyle does not mix with high-density
building.Frankly, this agricultural lifestyle is smelly, dusty, and full of animal noises that the
people tat live here love. But,as we all know, suburbia moves in and although they expect us to
put up with the increased traffic, crime rate, air pollution, human noise, and destruction of wide
open spaces, they don't want the smelly, dusty, noisy animals around. We have all seen a new
development fight to get rid of a farm and its animals that have beenthere forever, and win! So,
what happens to our lifestyle and livestock when Erie surrounds us with five houses per acre?
• What happens to the wildlife? This area is home to fox, coyotes, skunks, rabbits and numerous
other creatures.Where do these creatures go when their homes are bulldozed into cement?Ducks
and geese and herons make their homes in the open, wet spaces right next to our house. What
happens,to them when the city of Erie brings in its rampant growth?
• The City of Erie's hodgepodge land grabbing.Their annexation map shows a pieces of land here
and there that aren't even connected that they want to build on.At a time when the state is so
concerned about uncontrolled growth, the City of Erie seems to want to grab everything it can and
build on it before anybody can stop them.Prom their annexation map it appears that they threw
design out the door and are just grabbing any piece of open property they can find and planning
high-density building, obviously without any concern to current neighbors and lifestyles.
Growth is inevibtble. However, that growth needs to be sensible and managed and fit the existing
neighborhoods. This proposed development is a clear design of greed and personal agenda without any
regard for the people and property that it will affect. We are asking you to help us bring well-managed
growth to this aura, which means building houses that fit the current neighborhood.
