Box 758 Greeley, CO 80632 March 16, 1995 Dear Hall: We are a group of homeowners that currently reside along or in the vicinity of 71st Avenue between O Street and US 34 Bypass. Our group is comprised of the people whose signatures you will find on the enclosed petition. We are very much interested in and concerned with city transportation planning that involves a north -south arterial corridor for West Greeley and ultimately Northern Colorado. Many of the people in our group are within the city limits of Greeley and have built our homes in the last eight years or so. Some have lived here for over twenty five years and do remember when 71st Avenue was truly a country road. The corridor along 71st Avenue currently is comprised of residential housing, agriculture land, light industry (Hewlett-Packard, EFTC), and a city golf course. There are several new residential housing projects in various stages of development as well as the new ballfields and a new private elementary school in the near proximity. Our opposition as residents of this corridor to designating 71st Avenue as a major north -south arterial is obvious. Some of the homes along 71st Avenue would fall within the right of way and would have to be condemned, some homes would end up being so close to the roadway that the aesthetic and actual value would be greatly reduced, and others would compromised due to difficult or dangerous access onto a major arterial. MI of us realize that Greeley will continue to grow, expand west and hopefully continue to prosper for many years to come. We also see the need to look ahead and plan appropriately for the future demands that this continued growth will put on our current county roads and city streets. As the population base of Greeley becomes centered in the 65th to 71st Avenue area a major north -south arterial ( picture US 85 Bypass in East Greeley) would then become a devisive boundary through the heart of the residential Greeley. We would ask when the time comes for you to make such a decision that you will take into account the impact on our neighborhoods and the surrounding area in general. We would also hope that you would look at all the alternatives and actually drive each route rather than make a decision based on just a map or an aerial photograph.
