Dear Commissioners:
Several months ago, the Weld County Commissioners and Longmont City Council held a joint meeting to
discuss issues of mutual concern. One of those issues was how best to ensure adequate services to residents
in the 1-25 Mixed Use Development area. One of those services involves parks and open space. The City is
currently negotiating with a property owner of 325 acres located just south of Highway 119 between the City
and west of the Vista Commercial Center PUD (see attached map). We understand that your updated I-25
MUD plan or comprehensive plan for that area recommends that a funding mechanism be provided by new
development to help pay for infrastructure. Recognizing this need for park facilities exists and that Weld
County contemplates a mechanism by which development will pay for infrastructure, we request your
consideration for assisting the City of Longmont in acquiring park space in Weld County. The Longmont City
Council is seeking financial assistance from the commissioners so that park facilities can be expedited for Weld
County residents in this area.
If you believe this is a worthwhile joint venture, please contact me at your earliest convenience so we can begin
to discuss how to accomplish this project.
Sincerely
Gordon Pedr,w
