HomeMy WebLinkAbout910446.tiff RESOLUTION RE: APPROVE WELD FOOD BANK COMMUNITY FOOD AND NUTRITION PROGRAM 1991 APPLICATION TO BE SUBMITTED TO STATE DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL AFFAIRS AND AUTHORIZE CHAIRMAN TO SIGN WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board has been presented with a Community Food and Nutrition Program 1991 Application for the Weld Food Bank to be submitted to the State Department of Local Affairs, with the Grant amount to be $1,395, with the further terms and conditions being as stated in said Application, and WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to approve said Application, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Community Food and Nutrition Program 1991 Application for the Weld Food Bank to be submitted to the State Department of Local Affairs, be, and hereby is, approved. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chairman be, and hereby is, authorized to sign said Application. The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted by t e following vote on the 22nd day of May, A.D. , 1991. To improve the coordination of existing private and public assistance resources to better serve low-income communities; b. To assist low-income communities to identify potential sponsors of child nutrition programs and initiate programs in unserved and under-served areas; and c. To develop innovative approaches at State and local levels to meet nutritional needs of low-income individuals. Applicant Program Description: The Weld Food Bank, a not-for-profit 501-c-3 agency, accepts food donations from various local producers and suppliers . Other sources of obtaining food is food drives , Second Harvest National Food Bank Network, TEFAP, and purchasing food . In operating an Emergency Food Box Program for over six years we have noticed some low income hungry persons do not make it through the system for various reasons . We have and will continue to work with both the clients and the system to improve the sit- uation . With the $1395 .00 we would purchase food and add any extra perishable food items we have available to make "Mini" Boxes for these persons . Included in these boxes would always be bread , soup , canned vegetable and a macaroni & cheese dinner . When we have extra donations of garden vegetables or the family has not received any commodities for the month those foods would be added . All the coordination,eligibility criteria , etc . would be decided by the Weld County Coordinated Food Box Committee of which Weld County Department of Social Services is a member . The goal is to feed hungry people and prevent waste of some spordic large perishable donations . The minimum number of persons served would be 700 .
