Visual observation shows that the refractory below and 21 feet above the melt line will require replacing. This includes both skimming ramps. It is of opinions that the roof and floor are acceptable and will not need replacing. The refractories to- be-used for replacement will be equal to the original lining and from a major supplier. These blocks are consumable tooling per say as the working surface is reground approximately every five weeks. The useful copper block life is determined by its thickness and historically can be reconditioned five times. Copper blocks are scrapped after their useful life is exhausted. All Cooper blocks have a serial number. The first serial number purchased in 1990 was 801. All block serial numbers below this were original compliments through purchases made through 1989. Current inventory lists show that all blocks other than 150 purchased prior to 1989 were scrapped. w(.PS. f A ( x..1,1 ,r-L,L' r f ✓..'- .... l '.nuer er-E,q'nrenno l'd.._. The new valve bank only restored the original design performance expectations and did not enhance the original design performance. The original purchase order and proposal are attached. The proposal states that these are replacement valves (highlighted). In 1988 additional valves were changed on the Hot Mill auxiliary hydraulic system. Again this was for the purpose of restoring the equipment to original expectations. Attached is the Golden Aluminum project authorization form, purchase order and "Elwood" proposal. G1 June 13, 1966 Golden Recycle Company P. 0. Box 207 1405 East 14th Street Fort Lupton, Colorado 30621 Attention: Mr. Mike Denisco Dear Mike: Subject: Budgetary Proposal - Valve Stand Conversion Elwood Quotation No. 2057 I would like to confirm prices quoted verbally earlier today. As I explained, you have two options on the valve conversion. They are: Option 1 : Replacement of existing Hunt valving with Elwood valves, through the use of adapter plates. You would utilize the existing valve stands and manifolds. Option 2: Replacement of existing Hunt valving and stands with new manifolds and stands designed to accept the Elwood valving and duplicate the existing field connections to the manifolds. This would provide a completely pre-tested, turn key instal- lation. Your cost for the conversion of each valve stand, may be broken down as follows: Valve Stand - 1VS4A 6 4B Option 1 - $25,000.00 each Option 2 - 32,000.00 " Valve Stand - 1VS5A 6 5B Option 1 - $15,000.00 each Option 2 - 18,500.00 " As the above figures reveal, an entire replacement manifold and valve stand assembly is not much more costly, than an adapter plate approach. Option 2 offers greater flexibility in circuit design, as well as, the elimination of the adapter plates. The end result will be a much cleaner installation. Cg June 13, 1986 Page 2 Please bear in mind that these figures are budgetary estimates only; in the final analysis, prices may vary. If you would like to discuss this type of conversion with another of our customers, who has already made the conversion, I would suggest you contact Consolidated Aluminum in Jackson, Tennessee. Elwood Hydraulics re-valved the #3 Cold Mill for Conalco-Jackson, approximately one year ago. Prior to the conversion, this mill was down regularly, due to hydraulic failures. Since our conversion, the mill runs around the clock. I am told, they have even set production records, since our re-valving. I suggest you contact any or all of the following personnel regarding this conver- sion. Mr. Mike McNerney, Maintenance Superintendent Mr. Ron Scarborough, Rolling Foremen Mr. Bill Laughinghouse, Rolling Superintendent Mr. Hal Cowan, Maintenance Mechanic. Any of the above individuals may be reached at 901-424-2000. Should any questions arise, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. Very truly yours, ELWOOD HYDRAULICS COMPANY, INC. William C. C s. Box 207 1465 East 14th Street Fort Lupton, Colorado 80621 Attentions Mr. Mike Denisco Dear Mike: Subject: Hot Mill Hydraulics Elwood Quotation No. 3189 We have again reviewed the schematics furnished and have prepared pricing on replacement valving and adapter manifolds. We propose to furnish drilled steel adapter plates and manifolds, as required to adapt the existing Hunt valve port patterns to equivalent-sized Elwood valve port patterns. The Hunt valve utilizes a modular stackahle valve design which, when assembled, is smaller than the Elwood waving. For this reason, an adapter rianifold will be required, when adapting to those circuits utilizing Pressure Control and Pilot-Operated Check Valves. I have brc:ken down this proposal into valve stand groups and specific circuits relative to each, as follows: Stand 1VS1 Entry Shear Bottom Blade Cut One (1) required at $6,560.00 net each Stands 1VS?A & 36 Annulus Pressure Supply Two (2) required at $2,245.00 net each Stand 1VS4A & 4B Rewind Mandrel, Coll Car Stool, Deflector Roll, Deflector Plate Two (2) required at $?.2,420.0(• net each Stand I VS5A & 5B Belt Wrapper Tension, Belt Wrapper Pivot, Belt Wrapper Guide Roll do Nose Arm Two (2) required at $17,282.00 net each Stand I VS6 Coil Car Traverse (fast & slow) r3 January 2S, I Page 2 Two (2) required at 55,935.00 net each I have combined all valving, adapters and rr„nifolds required for each circuit and added the cost for each, with all others relative to each valve stand, to arrive at a lot price per valve stand conversion. You will note, that there are a number of stanos with duplicate circuits for functions on Mill Stands 1 and 2. • In such Instance, I have Indicated the quantity required. Shipment can be made within 12 weeks after receipt of your order. Partial ship- ments can be made sooner. Shipinent will be dependent upon approval of preliminary installation drawings. Due tc the mounting style of the Elwood valves (non-stack- able), It will necessary that you review the outline dimensions of each, to confirm that they will lit In the available space or. the manifolds. Due to peeling problems with the gold coating, we cannot put the gold to the beer side. This causes us to run 2 products (gold/c tear and clear/clear). 2.) Conversion coating is required to produce material for beverage ends due to the deep draw and higher film weights. 3.) Currently, the Mill is restricted to one supplier of coatings. primarily due to adhesion problems with second sources tested to date. Conversion coatings traditionally improve paint adhesion which would thereby permit use of a second material supplier.
