NJ — Reference: File No. 20198-000 Haley and Aldrich Inc. Attn: Carl Mount Since the inception of the C&M mining operation west of our home the quality of life and value of our home has drastically reduced. Besides ruining our view of the mountains the noise, dust and destruction of the roads have become a nuisance. The increase in traffic on road 20 1/2 and the non conformance to the speed limit by the gravel trucks has substantially increased the road noise and has become a threat to the safety of our children. The destruction of the roads by the gravel trucks has also become a safety hazard to other using the road and damaging to their vehicles. The dust is destroying the furnishings and carpeting in our homes and is threatening our health. We also believe that the dewatering of the C&M pit has effected the water level of our well. The thought of the C&M pit operating to the West in conjunction with the proposed Cooley pit to the East, Western Mobile pit to the Southeast and the proposed Shell pit to the North all within a 500 yard radius is a major concern and very disturbing. The salability and value of our home will further decline and the living condition will become unbearable for the next 15-20 years until the mining is complete. We strongly urge the county and the state to consider the quantity and locations of these mining operations and the effect they have on the people living in the area. We request that prior to granting the Cooley and Shell permits the state and the county: • Inspect the existing C&M and Western Mobil mining operations for compliance to the operating rules and regulation. • Repave roads 7 and 20 1/2. • Reduce the speed limit on road 20 1/2 and monitor the truck speed. • Check the air quality. • Monitor the dewatering. We also would like copies of the Mine and Reclamation Act and the Operating Rules and Regulations sent to us. Enclosed is the $5.00 printing fee. Thank you for the opportunity to express our concerns. Janine and Ted L.
