HomeMy WebLinkAbout910602.tiff CERTIFICATION OF PUBLIC FORUM RE: RELOCATION OF COUNTY FACILITIES A public forum was conducted on July 15, 1991, at 7:00 P.M. with the following present: Commissioner Gordon E. Lacy, Chairman Commissioner George Kennedy, Pro-Tem Commissioner Constance L. Harbert Commissioner C. W. Kirby Commissioner W. H. Webster Also present: Director of Finance & Administration, Donald D. Warden Acting Clerk to the Board, Carol Harding The following was transacted: I hereby certify that pursuant to a news release dated June 27, 1991, and duly distributed June 27, 1991, and redistributed July 2, 1991, an informal public forum was conducted to allow the citizens of Weld County a forum to express their views on the relocation of County facilities. Approximately 110 individuals were present. Don Warden presented an overview of the need for facilities, as well as the history of the creation of the Weld County Business Park, including fifteen notices of public hearing and ten public hearings. He reviewed the specifics of each proposal the County has received and explained the pros and cons of each proposal. Chairman Lacy asked if there was anyone present wishing to present the views of the proponents of the referendum being circulated. There were none present. Chairman Lacy then asked for public comment. Dick Boettcher, Roy Moser, Mark Flores, Ken Lind, Norman Carlson, Zeke Garretson, Chuck Carlson, John Martin, Jorge Amaya, Glenn Billings, Richard Hergert, Vic Kindsfater, Bud Johnson, Kenny Monfort, John Fournier, and Nancy Brigden presented their comments. Chairman Lacy clarified that we are not filling this building with incarcerated prisoners, but it will be filled with Criminal Justice employees, most of which are State employees. Commissioner Harbert stated that the indepth presentation presented by Don Warden is the same information the Board has been looking at for the last four months, it was not simply prepared for tonight's meeting. Commissioner Kirby reiterated that this is the culmination of five years of planning, not simply four months. Commissioner Webster stated he is disappointed in the City not having figures to back up their proposals. He has been hoping for some offer of a building which is 909, efficient, can handle the high traffic volume, and allows for expansion for the future; however, this has not been forthcoming. He does not feel the County should stay in downtown at the expense of the taxpayer. If it costs additional dollars to stay downtown, he is against it. This Certification was approved on the 17th day of July, 1991.
