Home My WebLink About900600.tiff RESOLUTION • RE: RECOMMENDATION CONCERNING REQUEST FROM UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE FOR INSTALLATION OF NEIGHBORHOOD DELIVERY AND COLLECTION BOX UNITS WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board received a request from Donna M. Small, Evans Post Master, to install four neighborhood delivery and collection box units within County right-of-way on 37th Street, and WHEREAS, after study by the Engineering Department, it was determined that it will be safer to install the mailboxes on McAvoy Avenue rather than on 37th Street, and WHEREAS, the installation of the mailboxes on McAvoy Avenue will be approximately 100 feet south of 37th Avenue, still within County right-of-way, and WHEREAS, said installation will occur after the Road and Bridge Department completes gravel improvements to McAvoy Avenue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that no further action is necessary concerning the hereinabove mentioned request from the United States Postal Service. Brantner, Chairman Board of Weld County Commissioners P 0 Box 758 Greeley, CO 80632-0758 Dear Mr. Brantner : As suggested by your letter of April 19, 1990, the Evans Post Office is considering installation of NDCBU' s, neighborhood delivery and collection box units, within the county right of way on the east side of McAvoy Avenue, just south of 37th Street. The proposed site would be approximately 100 feet south of the stop sign on McAvoy, and approximately 30 feet east of the center line of McAvoy Avenue. In order for the Evans mail carrier to properly serve these boxes, some improvements will be necessary on McAvoy Avenue, including widening and raising the road, and gravelling the surface. These improvements will be necessary before actual installation of the units occurs. I have discussed these requirements with George Goodell , and he assures me that the county will make these improvements without expense to the Postal Service. The Postal Service will incur the expense of the purchase and installation of the box units. The units would be installed side by side on a concrete pad approximately 7 feet wide, and 141/2 feet long. This will allow easy access for the customers to retrieve their mail, as well as for the carrier to serve the boxes from the rear side. The concrete pad would be slightly higher than ground level to allow for adequate drainage. I have attached a map of the area indicating the proposed location of the boxes, as well as a copy of the specs for in- stallation. I also made a rough draft of how the configuration will look with four units placed side by side. If you need further information, please feel free to contact me. Installation will be made approximately 1 ' from fence line , approximately 60 feet west of center of alley between McAvoy and Larson. The boxes are 24" in depth, and installation will require approximately 3 ' in space depth from fence line (property line) . There will be approximately 20 ' of space from edge of 37th Street to boxes . Our concerns are for safety and access to and from 37th Street . We need to know if we can get approval to install these units , and if there is a safety hazard for customers and mail carrier in parking on roadway along 37th Street to receive and deliver mail . The proposed site is along a straight portion of 37th Street with no obvious sight obstructions in either direction.
