HomeMy WebLinkAbout940055.tiff RESOLUTION RE: POLICY REGARDING TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF WELD COUNTY ROADS FOR PERIODS OF 72 HOURS OR LESS WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 42-4-410(6) (a) , C.R.S. , ". . . local authorities, within their respective jurisdictions may, for the purpose of road construction and maintenance, temporarily close to through traffic or to all vehicular traffic any highway or portion thereof for a period not to exceed a specified number of work days for project completion and shall, in conjunction with any such road closure, establish appropriate detours or provide for an alternative routing of the traffic affected . . . , " and WHEREAS, the Board receives numerous requests from the Public Works Department each month for temporary closure of Weld County roads for periods of 72 hours or less, due to temporary road conditions and/or road construction, and WHEREAS, all such temporary closures have, in the past, been placed on the Board's agenda for consideration, many times with such consideration taking place well after the roadways have been reopened and the need for the temporary closures has been obviated, and WHEREAS, the Board now desires to delegate the duty of ordering such temporary closure of Weld County roads for periods of 72 hours or less to the Weld County Director of Public Works. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, hereby delegates to the Weld County Director of Public Works the authority to temporarily close Weld County roads, for periods of 72 hours or less, for the following purposes: A. The protection of health, safety, and welfare of the traveling public from unsafe road conditions. B. Maintenance of Weld County roads and bridges. C. Construction of Weld County roads and bridges. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners directs the Weld County Director of Public Works to post such traffic control devices as shall be reasonably necessary to regulate, warn, and/or guide traffic on or around those Weld County roads and bridges which have been temporarily closed and that said traffic control devices shall conform to the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
