She was attending a meeting with nursing directors from other health departments in the state and they had informed her that the flu vaccine from Connaught was being delayed in shipment until mid-October. Our flu clinics had already been scheduled starting in early October and ending in early November. I then called Connaught Laboratories to see when our vaccine was going to be shipped. They told me that the date of shipment was October 26, 1994. The company had to remake the vaccine which was causing this delay. There was no possible way to receive the vaccine any earlier. Connaught Laboratories was the company that the Colorado Department of Health had a contract with for the price of$12.40 per vial. We had ordered 800 vials of vaccine in May of 1994 and they had told us the vaccine would arrive on September 12, 1994. I then called Penny Saver Medical to see if they had flu vaccine available. They carry flu vaccine from another company and had the vaccine available for$21.69 per vial with a discount for payment before the end of September. • I talked with Rose in Purchasing and told her the situation. I put in an emergency requisition to Penny Saver Medical for flu vaccine and Rose ordered the vaccine. I called Glenda regarding the flu vaccine and the additional cost and she said that was fine. I spoke to Don Warden regarding the extra expense of the flu vaccine and he said that seemed to be the only solution. We would like to request from the Commissioners and the Director of General Services approval for the purchase of the flu vaccine from Penny Saver Medical at the cost of$17,369.00. The flu vaccine is a very important part of our community outreach. Sincerely, CA Tat Ret-th,on, Lynette Rothman Nursing Office Manager 940845 Hello
